Updates on new site

Ok, 12 days after first publishing site and results are as follows:

Main keyword
  • Pages indexed by Google: 9 (I still haven't submitted site or sitemap)
  • Broad Search: 12 from 849,000 results
  • Search in Quotes: 9 from 132,000 results
  • allintitle: 13 from 7,840 results
  • allinanchor: 13 from 749,000 results
Pretty pleased with these. Some nice jumps from the first results posted about this new project.

This was a pretty tough keyword to tackle. The allinanchor results were high at 749,000 competing pages. I usually like to target an allinanchor keyword phrase with a maximum of 500,000 competing pages, so this was almost 50% over and above my usual maximum.

On the other hand, this keyword phrase gets 27,000 monthly searches for the broad term and 2,400 for the exact term. Trends show a consistent increase in traffic and the average CPC for Google Adwords is $1.52. Site carries 4 products in a review style website with some extra article pages. Average commission is $15.60 per sale. Very competitive health related market BUT nice returns for the effort.

The site has made 14 sales, so a little over $200 in total so far. Expect that to surge as more and more generic traffic gets to the site now it's ranking well.

I could have targeted an easier keyword phrase but I really don't see the value in something like that. This was an exercise in getting a site ranked for an attractive keyword phrase. I don't do this for love - I do this for sales. You see loads of SEO guides on the market where the examples they show are some really obscure terms with virtually zero search volume.

Done so far:
  1. Well site is finished and published, so that's the first step (duh...)
  2. Directory submission campaign is up and running
  3. Back-link building campaign is up and running
  4. Social Bookmarking campaign is up and running
Extras to do:
  1. I haven't done any RSS submissions yet so that's the next step.
  2. Need some more article submissions as well. Only have one article live in Ezine Articles with one more pending. Need to submit these to the other article sites as well.
  3. Need to install a blog on the site. Will be doing this over the weekend. Have some posts ready for this, so my WP blog will have some decent content. This will be the main site blog, hosted Wordpress with a nav bar link from the site.
  4. Need to target all the internal pages on the site. That will be via blogs and other free sites pointing to these pages with anchor text links. Article submissions as well for the internal pages.
  5. Video submissions. I have a video ready but just haven't got round to submitting this to any of the video sites yet.
  6. Need to bookmark my article pages. Waiting for the pending article to go live before I do that.
I've compiled all the SEO steps into a free guide which will be winging its way to you over the next couple of days. The PDF is almost ready, and I want to add some videos as well, so bear with me please.

Don't get too phased by SEO. It sounds complicated, but its a pretty simple sequence of logical steps and nowhere near as complex as some would like to make it. A combination of on-page optimization and some off-page steps.

I have zero formal background in SEO. Nada, zilch. I like testing stuff though (sad I know) and over the years got very good at tabulating test results and finding the trends in these results. It's how I made my living for 25 years plus. I never got fired, so must have been doing something right...

How is your other site doing that you mentioned back in early December?

Is it still pulling in money for you or have you left it alone.

All my sites are still going. I did lose ranking from inactivity basically, but they are all getting promoted again, so should be back up.

Still making good sales, but I figure the loss of income at around 30% across the board.

Moral is: keep your sites fresh
