SSEO stands for Simple Search Engine Optimization

Ok, quick update.

My newest site is now on the front page of Google (hurrah, hurrah...) from 901,000 results. I'm now officially at No.10 - First Page.

Traffic has hiked dramatically and sales are coming in, so very pleased. Very pleased indeed.

SSEO goes out on Friday 27th February and everybody on my newsletter list gets it. Free. No charge, no OTO's, nothing.

All subscribers to my newsletter also get access to the new forum for all group members. Again, free - no charge of any description what so ever.

Friday 27th February and get ready to turn a new page (and jump a few pages of results) with SSEO.

Updates on new site

Ok, 12 days after first publishing site and results are as follows:

Main keyword
  • Pages indexed by Google: 9 (I still haven't submitted site or sitemap)
  • Broad Search: 12 from 849,000 results
  • Search in Quotes: 9 from 132,000 results
  • allintitle: 13 from 7,840 results
  • allinanchor: 13 from 749,000 results
Pretty pleased with these. Some nice jumps from the first results posted about this new project.

This was a pretty tough keyword to tackle. The allinanchor results were high at 749,000 competing pages. I usually like to target an allinanchor keyword phrase with a maximum of 500,000 competing pages, so this was almost 50% over and above my usual maximum.

On the other hand, this keyword phrase gets 27,000 monthly searches for the broad term and 2,400 for the exact term. Trends show a consistent increase in traffic and the average CPC for Google Adwords is $1.52. Site carries 4 products in a review style website with some extra article pages. Average commission is $15.60 per sale. Very competitive health related market BUT nice returns for the effort.

The site has made 14 sales, so a little over $200 in total so far. Expect that to surge as more and more generic traffic gets to the site now it's ranking well.

I could have targeted an easier keyword phrase but I really don't see the value in something like that. This was an exercise in getting a site ranked for an attractive keyword phrase. I don't do this for love - I do this for sales. You see loads of SEO guides on the market where the examples they show are some really obscure terms with virtually zero search volume.

Done so far:
  1. Well site is finished and published, so that's the first step (duh...)
  2. Directory submission campaign is up and running
  3. Back-link building campaign is up and running
  4. Social Bookmarking campaign is up and running
Extras to do:
  1. I haven't done any RSS submissions yet so that's the next step.
  2. Need some more article submissions as well. Only have one article live in Ezine Articles with one more pending. Need to submit these to the other article sites as well.
  3. Need to install a blog on the site. Will be doing this over the weekend. Have some posts ready for this, so my WP blog will have some decent content. This will be the main site blog, hosted Wordpress with a nav bar link from the site.
  4. Need to target all the internal pages on the site. That will be via blogs and other free sites pointing to these pages with anchor text links. Article submissions as well for the internal pages.
  5. Video submissions. I have a video ready but just haven't got round to submitting this to any of the video sites yet.
  6. Need to bookmark my article pages. Waiting for the pending article to go live before I do that.
I've compiled all the SEO steps into a free guide which will be winging its way to you over the next couple of days. The PDF is almost ready, and I want to add some videos as well, so bear with me please.

Don't get too phased by SEO. It sounds complicated, but its a pretty simple sequence of logical steps and nowhere near as complex as some would like to make it. A combination of on-page optimization and some off-page steps.

I have zero formal background in SEO. Nada, zilch. I like testing stuff though (sad I know) and over the years got very good at tabulating test results and finding the trends in these results. It's how I made my living for 25 years plus. I never got fired, so must have been doing something right...

New project for the year

Hi all and welcome back.

It's been a pretty rough couple of months since Christmas and overall, I've let things slide a bit. Well quite a lot actually, but my base of websites is still there and just needs for me to get back into the old routine.

Into every life a little rain must fall, and the rain in my life took the form of the mother in law from hell, which leads me quite nicely into my first tip for 2009. Before leaving for your honeymoon, shoot your mother in law. Even better, marry an orphan. Ok, just needed to get that out of my system.

So on to the title of this post, "New Project".

Well I've been doing a lot or research on effective SEO techniques over the last few months and will be summarizing these in a report I'll be sending out over the next couple of days. As a test, I setup a new site on a keyword rich dot com domain and published this on February 6th. This is in a very competitive niche, with some nice affiliate commissions.

Results so far (remember it's only been 6 days)
  • Pages indexed in Google: 1 (I didn't submit the site - Google found me)
  • Broad Search: 65 from 819,000
  • Search in Quotes: 34 from 122,000
  • allintitle: 56 from 6,670
Not too shabby and set to build on this as I do some more link building. This is going to center on Web 2.0 sites, Social Media sites, Bookmarking, Article submissions, Directory submissions and Video.

Thought I'd spread it around a bit, just to keep under the search engine radars a bit, Yes, I know, sites are getting slapped once again for excessive use of various link building methods, which is why you need to spread it around.

If your link building consisted only of social media for example, try to use some alternatives. Moral is "don't put all your eggs in one basket".

I'll keep you posted on how this site progresses.

Look out for the next issue of the newsletter with this simple SEO guide.

Short, Sharp and Sweet

A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

See you all next year and let's make 09 even better than 08.

Thanks

Friday 19 December 2008

Thanks to all

First of all I would like to thank all of you for the comments on the blog and the emails received for young David.

By all accounts David is doing fine and will soon be back on the slopes, probably driving his mum and dad crazy.

Good on you David and lets hope Santa is in a generous mood this Christmas (Mark, hint - hint).

Once again, thanks to all. It's nice to be reminded that the internet isn't just for guru types, but for members of a community to show their support in difficult times.

Tuesday 9 December 2008

David, this one's for you

Our group member, Mark needs our messages of support.

His 7 year old son David, is due for open heart surgery today. I'm sure Mark and his family could use some comforting in this trying time, so let's all try to leave them a message of support on the blog.

I've had the pleasure of communicating with Mark on several occasions and
would like to take this opportunity to offer my heart felt best wishes for the success of young David's operation.

David, my prayers are with you. For Mark and his family, I'm sure things will go well and young David will come out of this like a champ.

David, This one's for you.

Shotgun Marketing Update

Pretty good. Pretty good indeed....

Results for my keyword phrase have now gone up to 405,000 (thought this would be a good one, but this is rising faster then I had hoped for).

Current Top 10 in Google results is as follows:
  1. My Ezine Article
  2. My Free site
  3. My Free site indented
  4. My other Free site
  5. My other Free site indented
  6. My blogger blog
  7. My GoArticles
  8. My wordpress,com blog
First 8 out of the Top 10, with 2 indented listings (Viva title variations !!!)

Plus another 6 listings on page 2 and 4 listings on page 3

So over all, I'm sitting on the Top 8 and a total of 18 of the Top 30 results.

My money site is sitting at 11, BUT this is rising fast as I get more and more back-links to the site and traffic is increasing. The site stats are rising fast. Quic
k Alexa screen shot below:

As you can see from the Alexa screen shot above, my money site is getting increasing traffic and reach in a niche which is growing in popularity.

I haven't even done any video submissions yet, so when those get done, I expect some more listings. I'll let these grow naturally as I don't want the video urls to go over the site urls.

Not only listings, but sales as well. Averaging 6 free trials a day, which is the thick end of $150 plus some actual purchases, for a total around $270 a day from this niche, which is growing in popularity very fast.

When I got into this niche, results were 334,000 on November 17th. Two weeks later and results are at 405,000 which is around a 20% increase. More people targeting = more people searching, so I'm sitting pretty.

November 17th AdWords estimate was $0.15. Today that is at $0.25, so more and more people are bidding on the keyword phrase. Happy days !!!
